A Kiwi Start with a Twist: Born in Napier, New Zealand, as the third out of four – a middle child, destined either to fade into the background or to make some noise. I chose the latter. Auckland University of Technology saw me not just as a student but as a first-year class president. Surprised? You shouldn't be. It's marketing, it’s all about perception and persuasion.
From DJ Decks to Corporate Checks: Teen years were all about the music. Bands, DJing – the works. But let's not romanticize it; this was strategic. This musical escapade led me straight into the arms of BMG in the music industry. Ever heard of the first website and online database for BMG? That's right, that was me, bringing digital disruption before it was a buzzword.
A Marketing Chameleon in Action: Then, a swift pivot to McDonald's. Why? Because true marketers thrive on versatility. I wasn't just flipping burgers; I was flipping the entire marketing strategy – sales records, menu innovation, you name it. And amid the 'Super Size Me' hullabaloo, I was there, learning the ropes of crisis management.
The Coolstore Conundrum: Enter The Coolstore, my entrepreneurial stint. A one-stop emporium for everything cool under the sun. But then, the 2008 GFC hit like a wrecking ball. Lesson learned? Even the best ideas need solid financial backing.
Les Mills and the Fitness Frenzy: Fast forward to Les Mills International. Here, I wasn't just marketing fitness classes; I was crafting cultural phenomena. Awards? Just a byproduct of good marketing strategy and execution.
Conquering the UK and Beachbody Adventures: Cut to the UK chapter – turning Les Mills UK from a fledgling operation into a market leader. But why stop there? Beachbody beckoned, and off I went, diving into the deep end of general management and strategy.
Burger King’s Turn and the Neighbourly Chapter: Back to New Zealand, I found myself at Burger King – a sort of corporate irony, given my McDonald's history. Then, a twist – leading Neighbourly.co.nz, because why not?
